February 27, 1713, Spotswood’s Treaty of Peace Tribute to the Governor of Virginia
The Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribe of Southampton County Virginia presented an Annual Tribute to The Governor of Virginia “ Three Arrows, one Beaver Pelt and a Peake Belt (Ote-koa) in accordance with (IAW) the “Peace Accords” of the Spotswood Treaty of February 27, 1713 with the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indians in what is now Southampton County Virginia. The Beaver Pelt was symbolic of the tribute given IAW the Middle Plantation Treaty of May 29, 1677 which took place in Williamsburg, VA.

Chief Walt “Red Hawk” Brown of the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribe of Southampton County Virginia briefs Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell on the tribe’s “Cattashowrock Town” Project (Palisade Native American Village) to be located on the tribe’s 100 acres of land off Old Bridge Road in Courtland, VA. Chief Brown spoke to the vision of attracting some 250,000 + tourist, within a 150 mile radius; to include, tourist from overseas, to the Southampton County / Franklin Area annually once the Cattashowrock Town Project comes to fruition.
